In this chapter, we deal with the questions in which the given word/alphabet/number follow the same relationship except one. The particular word/alphabet/number has to be assort out. Questions asked in this chapter has four options in them three belongs to a group by nature of words/alphabet/number and one belongs to another group. The option which seems different from the rest of the option has to be chosen as the answer. For solving these type of question, candidate has to aware about the mathematical activities and English alphabets also.

Symbolic/Number Classification

The main motive of asking the symbolic (alphabetic) and number classification questions is to judge the ability of a candidate with reference to the mathematical operations/rules and also the alphabetical series.

Number Classification

In number classification, there is a similarity among the numbers or groups of numbers. The number classification is based on similarities like

Prime number
Square and square roots of a number
Cube and cube roots of a number
Even and odd number
Divisibility test of a number etc.

Example: Find the odd one out.
(a) 72-43 (b) 68-40 (c) 85-57 (d) 55-27
Answer: (a) Except in the number pair 72-43, in all others the difference between the twjp numbers is 28.
68 -40 = 28 85-57 = 28 55-27 = 28 But, 72 – 43 = 29, so 72—43 is odd one out.

Alphabet Classification

In alphabet classification, there is a similarity or pattern among the alphabets in the group. The candidate has to identify the pattern and select the one which does not follow the common pattern in the group. The relationship among the alphabets is based on the following.

Position of alphabets
Vowel and consonant
Reverse order of alphabets
Addition and multiplication of position etc.
